Training

Tuesday is our main training night, with a variety of sessions to suit all abilities.  All sessions are led by qualified running leaders or coaches, and once or twice a month food is served afterwards at Leo’s.  Please browse the sections below to find out more about the groups we offer.

Our fastest runners meet at 6:15 on a Tuesday and typically run 1012 miles, including 30-45 minutes of sub-6:00 mile efforts.  Details will be published in our Facebook group each week.

Anyone faster than 24 minutes for 5k is welcome to our Advanced sessions, starting at 7pm Leo’s.  We have a monthly cycle of interval sessions, hill sessions and a track session which is on the second Tuesday of the month at Leeds Beckett Headingley Campus.  All road sessions will involve a warm-up jog, 30 minutes of efforts followed by a cool down.

The normal monthly pattern is:

  • 1st Tuesday: Long Reps (e.g. 3 x 10 minutes, 4 x 8 minutes, 5 x 6 minutes)
  • 2nd Tuesday: Track (e.g. 5 x 1200m, 6 x 1000m, 8 x 800m)
  • 3rd Tuesday: Mixed Reps (combination of anything between 1 minute and 10 minutes)
  • 4th Tuesday: Hills (e.g. rolling hills, Kenyan hills)
  • 5th Tuesday: Pyramid

Anyone faster than 30 minutes for 5k is welcome to our Intermediate sessions, starting at 7pm Leo’s.  We usually train with the Advanced group, but sessions are structured so that nobody is left behind!

Our beginners and improvers sessions, aimed at anyone running 5km in over 30 minutes, are at 6pm, either at Leo’s or the Grammar School at Leeds.

We offer regular “0-5km” groups, an 8-week course for those with no running experience at all who want to start running in an inclusive and judgement-free environment. Look out for news on our next course at the link below.

Once a month, a fell-specific training session is held as an alternative to the regular Tuesday session. Click below to find out what you can expect from these sessions.
