Training on Tuesday
Reminder that second Tuesday of the month is the track sessions, 6pm at GSAL or 7pm at Leeds Met.
Note that this will be the final session of the year at GSAL, for the rest of the winter we will be back at Leos.
West Yorks XC

Sun 20 October at Wakefield
Sat 2 November at Pudsey
Sun 17 November at Leeds

The Wakefield venue is likely to be Thornes Park, here’s a map http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=432000&y=420000&z=120&mapp=map.srf . From what I remember the first race (Under-11’s) is usually at 11:45, Under-13’s are 12-ish, Under-15’s about 12:30, women’s race at 13:30 and men’s at 14:15. Details will appear at http://www.westyorkshireathletics.org.uk/
Note that you can still enter the series but will be ineligible for race 1. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
Dates are as follows.
Sun 24 November Temple Newsam Kippax Harriers / St Theresas
Sun 15 December Golden Acre Park Abbey Runners / Ilkley Harriers
Sun 12 January Middleton Park Rothwell Harriers / Ackworth RR
Sun 16 February Danefield (Chevin) Valley Striders / Airecentre Pacers
Sun 2 March Northcliffe Park Saltaire Striders / Eccleshill RR
Note that, for the first time, adults need to register in advance, and will be allocated a number to wear for all 5 races. This should mean that the registration queues on the day will be quicker as they’ll have your details including age category, you just need to pay.
London Marathon Entries
Just a reminder that if you have a rejection slip for London (or even if you haven’t), email London@valleystriders.org.uk for a chance of one of the 4 VS places. Check your request has been received at www.valleystriders.org.uk/vslondon.htm

Harewood 2, 5 and 10
Still needing marshals, with 3 weeks ago it would make my life easier if I knew that we had everyone we needed and could allocate places. Please email email@example.com,uk if you are free – there will be a list at www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmarshals.htm
Regarding specialist positions, I’m looking for
· some car parkers (to arrive early)

Waiting for a full set of results, congratulations due to
· Andy May - 7th in the half marathon and
· Holly Williams – won the ladies 4k race
Also today were the Mablethorpe marathon, the Bramham 10k and the Red Bull Steeplechase
Race report from the Red Bull Steeplechase – from Steve Wilkins
The Red Bull Steeplechase is a fell race from Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District usually on the 1st weekend on October (just over an hour’s drive from Leeds).
Cost is around twenty pounds but you get a red bull hooded top, running socks and tea towel?! Plus they send you 4 cans of bull as well – a bargain.
Race format - 21 miles split into four knockout stages.
· 1st stage is 8 miles but only the first 300 get through.
· 2nd stage is 4 miles (pretty much all of it is vertical climbing or descending!) with only the first 125 getting through.
· 3rd stage is 6 miles but only the top 30 males and 10 females get through after this check point
· 4th stage is 3 miles.
Red Bull also put on a bbq and after party at the finish at the Castle Pub. Coaches from the end of each stage back to the finish / start are also laid on as part of the entrance fee.
It was horrendously hilly, very well organised and cheap to enter! I got through to the last steeple (18 miles) but missed the cut off for the final 3 miles, finishing in 77th place.
Thoroughly enjoyed it though and will be back next year. I recommend it to all Striders.
Google redbullsteeplechasecastleton for full details.
