Congratulations to Myra who was 1st lady at the Kielder marathon last Sunday – see our website for a picture of her crossing the line
Tuesday 14 October – Training at GSAL – 5:45pm start
Note that it’s the 2nd Tuesday in the month, so it must be track training.
The juniors and beginners/improvers will be at Grammar School at Leeds. There are no floodlights so we’ll be starting at 5:45pm prompt.
Note also that they’ve changed the parking arrangements at GSAL, you’ll need to park in the visitors car park down the main drive and then on the right. Then work your way anti-clockwise round the school buildings to get to the track.
For intermediates and experienced runners,
session is at Leeds Met at the usual start time of 7pm. Note the price is
now £4.50. Unfortunately we can’t have a bulk booking, so some of the
committee members are investigating whether there are any alternatives.
If you use the track more than once a week, it is
cheaper less expensive
to take out annual membership at £225.
Hi-Vis for Training
Hi-vis is now compulsory for all 6:45pm and 7pm sessions.
Juniors and beginners/improvers at the 6pm sessions need not wear hi-vis but please wear a light colour rather than black or dark blue, so as to be more visible under floodlights!

The final tables for the Junior Gramd Prix 2013/4 are now on the website, presentations will be at the Xmas Party.

West Yorkshire Cross Country
Good luck to everyone running the first WYXC on 19 October. If you’ve not registered and want to run the 2nd race, email by Saturday 18 October to email@example.com
If you’ve paid in the last 2 weeks but can’t see it updated on www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmemreg.htm don’t worry, Paul is away and we’ve not had an update from the bank.
But for the 40% of you who haven’t paid yet, this is just another gentle reminder! And if you’re not intending to renew, please let Tom know firstname.lastname@example.org
VSAC vs VSCC
Great Yorkshire Stair Climb – Saturday 22 November
Further to last week’s email where I suggested a VSAC vs VSCC challenge, but of course there are more than 50 Valley Striders who are members of both VSAC and VSCC, so it would have to be an AC vs CC vs AC+CC challenge
Entry and further information at www.racebest.com
Harriers vs Cyclists – Saturday 15 November
The previous week to the Stair Climb is the “Harriers vs Cyclists” event organised by Bingley Harriers.
This is part of the VSAC Grand Prix, but hopefully there will be some VSCC mountain-bikers to add further competition
RESULTS AND REPORTS (Alphabetical order)
Atlantic Coast Challenge - from Richard Adcock
28.6 miles along the coast path and across beaches - It was hot, undulating and tiring although I did get to see Newquay without going near a nightclub.
5:24:38 Finished 26/162 but there were definitely some short cuts being taken by others which was annoying.
60 miles to go
Another day, another marathon! 26.3 miles along the coast path, through sand dunes and across beaches never seems to get any easier.
Tired legs from the off today meant it seemed to take forever to get to 13.1 miles, then another forever to get to the end!
Just 29 miles tomorrow
I will take back what I said about yesterday’s stage, today definitely took forever to get to half way!
The first 4 miles were painful on aching thighs, then we climbed out of St Ives and the coast path was torture - climbing over slippy wet rocks unable to run for the next 10 miles was exhausting (4 hours to do 14 miles!)
The terrain eased up for the second half, and my mindset and pace improved especially for the last 3 miles when I felt great.
Barcelona Ironman Triathlon – from Dan Price
Ali and I both finished the inaugural Ironman Barcelona on Sunday. Ali smashed it in 12:47 and I was pleased to finish (14:06) without any knee problems. Both survived (even enjoyed!) the washing machine start of the sea swim, the bike was along the coast in spectacular scenery and super flat and the run was through the town of Callela with the whole town out to support. Superb Event and highly recommended to anyone looking to smash their PB or do their first Ironman. Mike Furby and Richard Adcock - sub-11 hour potential? Potential future VSCC Tri trip?
