Lulu Button

Firstly congratulations to Holly and Tom.  Tallula Victoria Button (Lulu) was born on Tuesday 7 April at 8:06a.m.; 6lb 9oz.  Tom said “mother and baby doing fine”, and I’ve seen on Facebook that Lulu attended her first race – Roundhay parkrun – today.

There are more “bumps on the run” at Valley Striders, and the making of a great Valley Striders under-11 squad for 2015.

Meanwood Valley Trail Arrangements

I’m hoping we have enough marshals, the more we get then the more Striders will be able to run in the race.

So if you are available next Saturday, it’s not too late to email – there is a full list of volunteers at

And if you would like to run, then email the “help” address, say “WLTR”, and if possible, come early to help with car parking and/or race set up.

We also need a few more on Friday evening to stick labels on beer bottles.  Full training will be given.

We have a new course map

All team leaders and assistant team leaders are requested to come to a meeting at Leos on Tuesday 14 April at 8:30pm for briefing.

Everyone else will be notified by email on Thursday, please look out for an email.

Table now updated on the website.  Steve Webb says “The evergreen Malcolm is the early leader with the first full house of 5 races across 3 categories.  What it is to be retired/full time athlete!”

Stirling Duathlon – from John Shanks

Thought I'd give an update on the Stirling Duathlon at the weekend, since I forgot to post about Clumber Park!

This was my third sprint race in as many weekends and I'm feeling it to be honest. Main focus was to get race experience ahead of the ETU next month and I think I've got that now, with some fine tuning at Anglian Water I should be sorted.

The race was held at Stirling University, which is a nice spot when the weather is kind. Unfortunately it wasn't yesterday! Anyway, it was a nice buzz competing in my hometown.

They had a sprint and standard race, but before that they held a junior race within the University grounds which is great for getting kids involved.

Both sprint runs were just over 5k, the route was flat apart from one hill. Cycle route was a 12 mile loop out of the upmarket Bridge of Allan to the drug infested hellholes of Alva and Menstrie, then back towards the Wallace Monument into the University.

I didn't run as well as I hoped, slowed towards the end but I was tired from just shaking off a cold. I was pleased with the cycle in those weather conditions and transition is getting better. Gains to be made and on top form I could have closed that gap of just over a minute to the winner.

I finished 5th place and 2nd in my age category. I'd already qualified for the ITU so this was a bonus. Sarah did well too, especially on the bike despite crashing at a dodgy roundabout. She might be on to tell you more!

The event was great and really well organised. I was talking to a marshal afterwards who said they'd been setting up since 5:30am - remember the clocks went forward too! So a lot of credit to them. Definitely a race to consider for next year.
