Junior Training Sessions

Our juniors train every Tuesday evening, 52 weeks a year, weather permitting.

  • In the winter we train under floodlights on the rugby pitches at Leodiensian Club (Leos) off King Lane, LS17 5PR.  Session times are 4:45-5:25, 5:30-6:10 and 6:15-6:55
  • In the summer, we alternate between the rugby fields at Leos (4:45/5:30/6:15) and the athletics track at Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL).   Session times at GSAL are 6:00-6:55 and 7:00-7:55 in GSAL term time and 5:30-6:25 and 6:30-7:25 in GSAL school holidays

We split into groups based on age and experience, all groups starting with a warm-up and finishing with a cool down and stretches. Sessions include an activity with short bursts of speed and an activity with longer periods of running.  At GSAL we also have field events such as long jump and shot put.  Don’t worry, we have more periods of rest than running and we explain the field events, it’s not a competition.

Occasionally there are other events that replace the junior session e.g. the Golden Acre Relays in July e.g. training at the Bodington cycle circuit. Check the website calendar for venues.

After many of the Tuesday sessions at Leos we have food with 3 menu choices including one vegetarian option.

We also have a session on Friday evenings at 7pm at Beckett Park track.  This session is only for experienced runners and costs £3 per night payable to the University at reception.  Please email [email protected] for details.

For juniors at secondary school who want to compete in county events we have a “competitive” group who train Tuesdays 6:00-6:55 at various locations including Leos, Bodington and Beckett Park.

From the ages of 13 and above, juniors who are focussing on endurance running rather than sprints and/or field events may find better training with one of our adult groups. We have a “Young Adults Policy” for under-18’s training with adult groups which you can find here.
