Of the three big off-road relays that take place in Yorkshire, the Calderdale Way has the most fell terrain, the most hills and is the furthest away from Leeds. It is, therefore, always an achievement to get a team of 12 out for this race.
We did have a team of 12, but thanks to an unfortunate incident with a large nail, we were down to 11, with only a week to go. Unable to get a last minute reserve, we managed to complete the race, thanks to the fantastic efforts of Simon Vallance, who ran leg 3 and leg 4, and 12th team member, Steve Dixon, who solved our logistical challenges by driving the leg 3 and 4 runners round for the day.
We were all rewarded with a day of glorious sunshine and spectacular Calderdale scenery. The running was a bit tough, but definitely worth it!
