TRAINING – SAFETY
We will look after all children while they are on the rugby field but we will need you if there is an incident involving your child or if your child wants to leave the rugby field before the end of the session.
Due to the dark evenings and poorly lit car parks we have new safety procedures
- If you are not staying on-site throughout the session, you must nominate another adult to have responsibility for your child/children while you are away
- If you are staying in your car, you must write your contact details on the Emergency Contacts Form which will be on the veranda in front of the clubhouse
- If you are going to help with the session or watch from the side of the field, thank you! (no form to fill in).
- Also, in all cases, if you are the responsible adult for a child that is not your own, you must let the relevant leader know
And at the end of the session, you must collect your child(ren) from the edge of the rugby field.

We will review these procedures over the next few weeks and publish an updated version.
TRAINING – BOOKING
The survey form to book for November is now on the website
https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/booking-junior-training-sessions/
I use the same link every month, so towards the end of November you’ll find the links to book for December.
PECO CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE
(Peco is the name of the main sponsor)
The Peco Cross Country League 2022/23 is a series of 5 meetings between November 2022 and March 2023.
- Sun 27 November – Middleton Park
- Sun 18 December – Templenewsam
- Sun 22 January 2023 – West Park / Becketts Park
- Sun 19 February 2023 – Middleton Park
- Sun 5 March 2023 – Roundhay Park
- And there will also be a relay race at the end of March
This is open to club members school years 2 and older. Also open anyone on the waiting list (you should contact us and then register as a Valley Strider)
These races are suitable for all abilities. We strongly encourage all junior members to take part and will be slightly disappointed with those who don’t take part in at least one race.
Distances and start times are one mile at 10:00am for school years 2 to 6; two miles at 10:20am for school years 7 to 11. NB parents of school years 2 and 3 must be confident that their child can complete the distance e.g. they have done junior parkrun.
Cost is £7 for the whole series (whether you run 1 race or 5).
NB There are no on-the-day entries for the Series but it is possible to enter a single race on the day. This is more expensive, and results for on-the-day entries are not included in the overall series results.
This is a “free” event for V S Junior Full Members and Junior Limited Training Members (i.e. everyone except Social Members) in that those who enter and race will get £1.50 fee refunded for every race that they do when renewing their membership in the following January (i.e. refunds for the November and December races will be given in January 2023).
Entries are online via Racebest https://racebest.com/races/w2vse (the website shows this as “race 1” but it is for the whole series and you only need to enter once, your name will automatically be entered for subsequent races).
If you enter before 13 November you will get a personalised race number. If you’re not sure whether or not you’ve entered, there is a box “Latest entries” which contains a button “See all”.
Note that the first meeting is being marshalled by Abbey Runners and Valley Striders – we hope some parents will be able to help.

KIT – T-SHIRTS AND VESTS
I’m sure you’ve seen many of our juniors wearing Valley Striders T-shirts or vests at training sessions.
I have a stock of these in various sizes which you can try on (preferably before a session) and buy the size that fits best. They are just £11 each.
KIT – HOODIES
We have a new supplier for hoodies. There are two styles (pullover and zipped) and two colours (black and grey)
Please see the following links
https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/hoodies-and-vs-training-kit/
Costs are £21 for the pullover version and £25 for the zipped version. Each can be embroidered with name or initials for £3 extra and then there’s postage and packing £4.50 to pay.
SPORTS DAY – PICTURES AND RESULTS
Most juniors have now received their trophies or medals.
I’ve now updated the web page with photos of the day and of photos of some of the award presentations.
I’ve also added a link to a Excel file which shows full details of how the awards were calculated.
