“Good morning crackpots” may sound an unusual way to open a race briefing, but not at the Crackpots Trail Race. The second running of this event took place on Sunday 23rd June in Kirkby Malzeard, Nidderdale. The race is named after the nearby Crackpots Mosaic Trail, a 7 mile route which makes for a nice hike or trail run.
The sun shone once again for the race, a 7 mile multi-terrain test featuring no fewer than four water crossings – most of the race is run in wet shoes! Fields, tracks, hills, panoramic views, a violinist, great volunteers and a pie for all finishers are also included in the entry fee. Only two Striders took part this year, cheered on by a further three at the finish line. Well done to Liz who made the top 10 ladies (and 2nd in age category), and a special mention of former Strider Rob Marsh who had a great run, finishing top 10 in the red of Harrogate Harriers.
The race is part of the village’s annual festival, so there is a great atmosphere with live music, bars and food stalls to stick around for afterwards, as well as the prize draw for all entrants. Unfortunately we all came away empty handed, but I’ll be back next year to try again!
