The Holly Hustle, the second best Meanwood valley trail race (MVT being the number 1, obviously) took place on a Saturday morning after a fair amount of rain had fallen the week before. Seven Striders took to the start of the single loop 11k course – a 22k double route was available too but I certainly didn’t fancy that!
Blazing to first place was Jonathan Pownall in 45 m 30 s swiftly followed by David Middlemas in third place. Tim Towler was second in his age category and Angeline Dresser was in the top five females to finish.
The event promised fast fun packed trail running and only a mile from the finish, Zoe and I were going at rather a decent (for us) pace when a Zoe caught a rock and had quite a spectacular fall. Following receiving first aid at the scene (thanks to fellow runner Amanda from Brighouse Bumble Bees, a marshal and a first responder who happened to be passing) we decided to call it a day and DNF’ed. There is always next year.
