Please could everyone keep off the track this evening
This session will be at GSAL but we won’t be using the track itself.
The consequences are that group 5 at 5:30 (years 2 and younger) has been cancelled and “C” group will be elsewhere
Now 4 groups (48) at 5:30, 2 groups (22) at 6:30
This session original plan e at GSAL – 5 groups (61) at 5:30, 1 group (20) at 6:15, 2 groups (25) at 6:30
If we have to cancel or change the venue, there will be a message here by 4pm Tuesday
SPECIAL MESSAGES FOR THIS WEEK
Several of the groups are over subscribed but I want everyone to have a chance to come. If most parents volunteer to help, even just by following one of the groups around, then it may be OK. If things go wrong I will reduce the numbers in future weeks which will mean that some will miss out.
I’m publishing early to let you all see who is in each group. I have a good balance of numbers at the moment but may be able to switch people between groups and times – please put request in early if you want to be in a different group or time.
I’m requesting that, for this week only, while we settle in, each adult is responsible for no more than 2 children if from different families. If you want to bring more than two, then please ask.
Please note earlier start time as GSAL is on holiday. You can come on site from 5:00pm.
From the main entrance, keep in the left hand lane and turn left at the barrier. Press the green button to raise the barrier.
Drive past the cricket pavilion and turn right. Almost immediately turn left into the staff car park. Drive as far as possible down the car park.
From the car park, walk in the same direction to the mini-roundabout and turn right. (Beware of traffic and contractor’s vehicles). Continue past the stores on the left and then you’ll see an uphill path which leads to the athletics field
Please be ready to run at 5:30/6:15/6:30
NB No cars may pass the mini-roundabout. ALL PARENTS MUST GO WITH THEIR CHILDREN TO THE MEETING POINT – THEY MUST NOT LET THE CHILDREN RUN AHEAD. This is due to building work on site.
NB Bookings for April are now open, click on
https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/booking-junior-training-sessions/
We will need help to set up all the activities, please come across as soon as you arrive to see how you can help.
Parents then please register with the group leader as we need to know where you are in case of emergency; also wait to see if you are needed to help with the activities.
We will need TWO leaders (one leader, one assistant) for every group because when we do field events we will split each group into two.
Tasks for activities (please volunteer)
- sprinting – allocating runners to races, starting, judging 1-2-3, timekeeping, recording
- long-jumping (2 teams) – runway control, checking for no-jump, marking landing point, raking the sand
- laps – running (including back-marker), timing, keeping finishers in order, recording
- shot (2 teams) – keeping athletes safe, calling up to putt, assistance with style, retrieving shots
Please see the site map and location of meeting points and please ensure you are aware of the rules for confirmation and cancellation in the following link https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/juniors-training-at-gsal-2024/
On Tuesday, if you need to cancel, please text 07775 898 558 (don’t use any other method, not email, not gmail, not Facebook, not Messenger, not Whatsapp).
Other Messages
When groups do long jump they will split into 2 sub-groups using separate pits. When groups do shot they will split into 2 sub-groups using separate throwing circles. Therefore we will need a lot more parents to help, please.
Warning – wearing of spikes is allowed but you should also bring some normal running shoes for shot put and also if there are any games
If you have any queries, please comment on the Facebook post or email [email protected]
