GSAL is cancelled, Leos is ON!!!!
For Leos, ideally come to your “normal” time i.e. 4:45, 5:30, 6:15 but if that isn’t convenient, there are spaces at all sessions – just let me know via the new Facebook post.
NB Please come on time for the session you’ve selected. I don’t want to merge groups at the start of a session and then have a lot turn up and have to unmerge them
The “C” group is still on at Beckett Park but please check Whatsapp
There will be 5 groups (69) at GSAL at 6:00, 1 group (8) at GSAL at 7:00, 1 group (17) at Beckett Park at 7:15
If we have to cancel or change the venue, there will be a message here by 4pm Tuesday
I’m looking for 4 volunteers to lead the sprint activity at 6pm – a starter, a timekeeper and an assistant for each. I also need one more volunteer for shot put. Please reply in the Facebook post.

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGES IN RED APPLY TO GSAL, PLEASE READ ALL OF THEM.
I’m still requesting that each adult is responsible for no more than 2 children if from different families. If you want to bring more than two, then please ask.
Please note later start time as for GSAL it is a normal week.
YOU MAY NOT COME ON SITE TILL 5:50PM. NOT EVEN QUEUEING ON THE MAIN DRIVE!
From the main entrance, keep in the left hand lane and turn left at the barrier. (Press the green button to raise the barrier).
Drive past the cricket pavilion and turn right. Almost immediately turn left into the staff car park. Drive as far as possible down the car park.
Please note: You MUST NOT go past the mini-roundabout in your car.
From the car park, walk in the same direction to the mini-roundabout and turn right. (Beware of traffic and contractor’s vehicles). Continue past the stores on the left and then you’ll see an uphill path which leads to the athletics field.
Please note: You MUST accompany your child(ren) to the athletics field. You MUST NOT let them run ahead.
SPECIAL MESSAGES FOR THIS WEEK
We have 69 coming to the 6pm session.
We will need A LOT OF HELP to set up all the activities, please come across as soon as you arrive to see how you can help.
Parents then please register with the group leader as we need to know where you are in case of emergency; also wait to see if you are needed to help with the activities. Most parents will stay with “their” group and help with activities as needed.
We will need TWO leaders (one leader, one assistant) for every group because when we do field events we will split each group into two.
Tasks for activities (please volunteer)
- sprinting – allocating runners to races, starting, judging 1-2-3, timekeeping, recording
- long-jumping (2 teams) – runway control, checking for no-jump, marking landing point, raking the sand
- laps – running (including back-marker), timing, keeping finishers in order, recording
- shot (2 teams) – keeping athletes safe, calling up to putt, assistance with style, retrieving shots

When groups do long jump they will split into 2 sub-groups using separate pits. When groups do shot they will split into 2 sub-groups using separate throwing circles. Therefore we will need a lot more parents to help, please.
Warning – wearing of spikes is allowed but you should also bring some normal running shoes for shot put and also if there are any games

Group 3 will do activities 3,4,1,2
Group 4 will do activities 4,1,2,3
Group 5 will be doing Relays on the central field, Standing Long Jump on the central field, Sprints on the back straight and Throwing tennis balls from the javelin runway
After all activities have been completed, there will be an opportunity for those who are intending to compete in track & field in the Spenborough or York events in August o have more practice shot putting and/or long jumping and/or crouch starts for sprints.
